Building Klau in the Open, Week 2: Learning From the Gaps

It's been one week since I posted about Klau. Here are a few things I've learned.

The most useful conversations were the ones that exposed gaps.

Early in the week, someone asked whether Klau factors in disposal costs when routing. It didn't. Now it does. The algorithm weighs the cost and benefit of driving further to a site with better rates.

The Klau dispatch board.

Later in the week, a different conversation raised something I hadn't considered: Klau makes it easier to onboard a new dispatcher. The system holds the logic that usually lives in one person's head. I'm now thinking about that as a core part of Klau's value.

This is why I'm building in the open. I can't see what I'm too close to.

The weather here has been great after the early January rain, and the trails are in perfect shape. I rode every day this week except Monday and set personal records on a few of my favorite trails. That kind of reset makes the work better.

Back at it next week alongside my consulting work. Thank you to everyone who reached out.
